Website Speed Optimization TimisoaraEvery Lost Second Means Lost Clients

You have 3 seconds. That's how long the average mobile user waits for your page to load before closing it and going to a competitor. Not 10 seconds, not 5 — 3. If your website takes 7 seconds to load, you lose more than 60% of your mobile visitors before they see a single word.

But the problem doesn't stop at user experience. Google has used page load speed as an active ranking factor since 2021, with the introduction of the Core Web Vitals metrics. A slow website doesn't just frustrate visitors — it's directly penalized in search results in favor of faster competitors. At ProjectMedia, speed optimization is a standard part of every website we build and is also available as a standalone service for existing websites.

“Speed is not just a feature. Speed is the feature.” — Fred Wilson, Union Square Ventures

Every 1-second delay in page load time cuts conversions by 7%, increases the bounce rate by 11% and lowers user satisfaction by 16%. A website that cuts its load time from 5 seconds to 2 seconds can increase sales by 34%. (Source: Google/Deloitte, 2024)

Core Web Vitals — The Google Metrics That Determine Rankings

Since 2021, Google has measured a website's user experience through three specific metrics, collectively known as Core Web Vitals. These metrics are active ranking factors — a website that doesn't meet them is directly disadvantaged in search results.

LCP — Largest Contentful Paint (target: under 2.5 seconds)

LCP measures how long it takes for the largest visible element on the page (usually the hero image or main text) to appear on the user's screen. It's the most important indicator of “perceived speed” — the moment the user feels the page has started loading. The main causes of poor LCP: large unoptimized images, slow hosting and render-blocking JavaScript.

CLS — Cumulative Layout Shift (target: under 0.1)

CLS measures a page's visual instability — how much elements shift around while the page loads. Have you ever clicked a button that moved right as you pressed it, and triggered something else? That's CLS. It's caused by images without defined dimensions, dynamically injected ads and web fonts that load late.

INP — Interaction to Next Paint (target: under 200 milliseconds)

INP (which replaced FID in 2024) measures how quickly the website responds to user interactions — a click, a tap, a key press. A website that “freezes” for a few seconds after a click has poor INP. It's caused by excessive JavaScript blocking the browser's main thread.

Websites that pass all three Core Web Vitals tests have 24% fewer page abandonments and 15% more organic traffic than websites that fail at least one metric. (Source: Web.dev/Google, 2024)

The Speed Optimization Techniques We Apply

1. Image optimization — the biggest speed gain

Images make up 50-80% of a web page's weight on average. The optimizations we apply: conversion to WebP (35-50% smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality), lossless compression, lazy loading (images load only when the visitor scrolls to them), correct sizing for the user's screen (we don't serve 2000px images to a phone with a 390px screen), preloading the main image (LCP improvement).

2. CSS/JS minification and optimization

Removing whitespace, comments and redundant code from CSS and JavaScript files. Combining multiple files into one (fewer requests to the server). Removing “dead” code — CSS and JS that is loaded but not used on that page. Deferring non-critical JavaScript (it loads after the page is visible).

3. Properly configured caching

Browser caching: static resources (images, CSS, JS) are saved in the visitor's browser on the first visit — on later visits, the page loads instantly from the local cache. Server caching: dynamically generated pages (WordPress) are “saved” as static files and served quickly, without PHP processing on every request. CDN (Content Delivery Network): static files are distributed across servers worldwide and served from the server closest to the user.

4. Database optimization

On WordPress websites, the database builds up redundant data over time: old post revisions, expired transients, spam comments, unnecessary metadata. Cleaning up and optimizing the database significantly reduces server response times.

5. Hosting upgrade or CDN migration

Sometimes the problem isn't the code — it's a server that's too slow. We analyze your current hosting performance and recommend an upgrade or migration if needed. Quality hosting (NVMe SSD, PHP 8.x server, Redis cache) can cut server response times by 50-70%.

6. Targeted LCP, CLS and INP optimizations

LCP: preloading the main image, eliminating render-blocking resources, server push. CLS: explicitly defined dimensions for all images and media elements, reserved space for ads. INP: reducing JavaScript main-thread blocking, code splitting, lazy loading of interactive components.

Websites with a mobile PageSpeed Insights score above 90/100 have an average load time of 1.9 seconds, compared to 6.3 seconds for websites scoring below 50/100. The difference translates directly into higher conversion rates and better Google rankings. (Source: HTTPArchive, 2024)

Frequently Asked Questions About Speed Optimization

What PageSpeed score should I aim for?

At least 75/100 on mobile and 85/100 on desktop. Ideally, above 90/100 on both. Websites delivered by ProjectMedia have an average mobile score of 88/100 — you can verify it on any project in our portfolio.

Can speed optimization break my website's design or features?

No — the optimizations are technical, not visual. The design stays exactly the same while performance improves. We test everything on staging before applying it to production.

How long does a full speed optimization take?

2-5 business days to fully implement the optimizations, plus one day of testing and verification. Complex projects with custom code may take longer.

Do I need speed optimization if you built my website?

If we built your website after 2022, it's already optimized to current standards. If it was built earlier or by another company, a speed audit will show where it stands. Contact us for a free assessment.
